HABAlert
Near-Real-Time Cyanobacteria ID and Counting
SOLUTIONS & CAPABILITIES
Traditional monitoring methods for algal blooms range from heavy reliance on crude, naked-eye observations and sighting reports, to lab analyses which require expensive instruments and shipping of samples to certified labs. These methods can result in false positives, leading to unnecessary interventions (beach closures, use of advanced water treatment, etc.), or multi-day lag times in response due to shipping times and lab backups.
To address these issues, BloomOptix is currently developing HABAlert, a means of automatically identifying and counting cyanobacterial cells belonging to two of the most common harmful algal bloom producing genera: Microcystis and Dolichospermum. HABAlert replaces the need for expensive equipment with an inexpensive cellphone-compatible microscope, providing more data than sensors or traditional microscopes alone.
Simply use the provided microscope to image your water sample, upload your image, and let the HABAlert AI get to work.
Currently under development, HABAlert promises return of full cell counts and ID within 10 minutes or less.
Development of the HABAlert AI is currently slated to finish in late summer of 2022, just in time for HAB season.
